Exploring the Yellow River

Exploring the other yellow river and other odor causing concerns.  The Yellow River or Huáng Hé is the third-longest river in Asia, following the Yangtze River and Yenisei River, and the sixth-longest in the world at the estimated length of 5,464 km. (wickipedia)

Wowzers! That’s some river but sometimes the river your cat or dog creates on your carpet seems longer.   Urinary tract infection, freaking out because of the lightning storm or just acting out because you took the dog for a ride instead of Licky the cat.  Whatever the reason the results are the same.  Your home smells like an overripe litter box.

What’s a girl to do?

First, don’t freak out.   Help is a phone call away.  Play detective and  suss out why did Towzer pee on the rug?  Did someone forget to let him out in a timely fashion?  Was he nervous about his upcoming interview as Brad Pitt’s dog?  Did the lightning or a mountain lion at the window scare him?  It only takes a little bit of work and you’ll probably come across the answer.

Now for a solution.  There are all kinds of solutions. Put the animal in a crate when there is lightning storms.  Get a skunk to chase off the mountain lion. Tell Brad fluffy is overbooked but you’ve got some free time.

You can put up gates or close doors and keep the animal from accessing the part they peed on. Their nose or habit will tell them they need to go pee on that part again and if you close off access they’ll pee somewhere else like outside or the litter box if it’s pristine.

No animal should be allowed to destroy your home. That bears repeating. No animal should be allowed to destroy your home.
If you can’t bear to put your pet in a crate because you’ve convinced yourself it’s cruel—it’s not, then put them in the laundry room and put the litter box in there. If they miss then it’s easy to clean a tile or wood floor. Carpet not so much.

You can go on Amazon and buy a deterrent collar with a sensor.    Put the sensor or several sensors at each entry point of every room you’d like to not have pee in and then put the collar on fluffy. It won’t harm them and after a bit of training your room is pee-free—until the battery dies so put it in your phone when to replace the battery and don’t cheap out and not replace the battery because carpet cleaning cost a lot more.

More on this topic next time including some home remedies you can actually do.
